Unbound Writer Retreats

Intimate, immersive writing retreats in inspiring destinations.

Unbound Writer Retreats are small, focused gatherings designed for writers who want meaningful progress in a concentrated setting. Over multiple days, we step away from daily noise and immerse ourselves in craft, clarity, and forward momentum.

Each retreat is thoughtfully designed around the location and the group. Some focus heavily on manuscript development. Others lean into writing psychology, career direction, or creative renewal. What stays constant is depth, accountability, and real work.

Unbound Writer Paris is a boutique, high-level retreat for mystery and suspense writers, led by Carter Wilson alongside bestselling authors Alex Finlay and Clémence Michallon. Over four immersive half-days in the heart of Paris, you’ll write, workshop your pages, and sharpen tension, pacing, and character psychology. The experience also includes curated literary outings in Paris, blending serious craft work with the city’s rich storytelling history.

“The retreat inspired me in ways I didn’t expect—the focus on being a writer and finishing the book was what I needed.”

WHAT MAKES THESE RETREATS DIFFERENT

These are not silent writing getaways.

Each day blends focused craft instruction, guided writing sessions, and structured feedback. You’ll spend significant time learning specific techniques around structure, tension, pacing, and psychology, then immediately apply them to your own work.

There is dedicated time to write. There is space to connect. But the foundation of every retreat is practical instruction and meaningful engagement, not passive isolation.

The group is intentionally small so conversations stay honest, direct, and personal.

What You’ll Walk Away With

A clearer understanding of your manuscript, stronger command of structure and tension, and direct insight into the realities of traditional publishing. You’ll leave with sharper perspective on what your story needs, where it’s already strong, and where it requires more depth or precision.

You’ll write. You’ll share selectively. You’ll engage in candid conversations about the mental habits and hurdles that stall writers. And you’ll receive focused one-on-one time to define concrete next steps so the momentum continues long after the retreat ends.

What’s Included?

Each retreat includes focused, immersive daily instruction paired with collaborative writing sessions designed to move your work forward in real time. You’ll also have a dedicated 30-minute one-on-one session during the retreat to discuss your manuscript and goals, followed by a 60-minute post-retreat session to ensure your momentum continues.

In addition, industry guest speakers offer professional insight into craft and publishing, and light refreshments are provided on site so your attention can stay where it belongs: on the work.
